The Album Compared to Older Albums 2.

Also another vast difference in the Red Hot Chili Peppers is their album covers and pictures etc. As the albums before Blood Sex Sugar Magic (pictures below);

As you can see these album covers are quite extravagant and outgoing and seem more mad than their more recent albums such as Californacation. By The Way, Stadium Arcadium and I'm With You, (pictures below);

(There were also two albums in between the albums shown which were Blood Sugar Sex Magic and One Hot Minute)
As you can see these albums aren't as outgoing and seem to look like a more calm scene. I think these album covers represent the music on the album and also in most cases where the band were emotionally etc at the time they made the albums. I think this because if you loom at their first album cover it seems hectic and mad which was exactly what the music and their lives were like at that stage in their life, and the same goes for Uplift Mofo Party Plan as there lives then were partying and lots of drug taking which some people would say would show in the music as it was very fast and mad. However if you take mothers milk it isn't so hectic as it is mainly white and only has a picture of a girl holding the Red Hot Chili Peppers in her arms so its simple. I think this is because at this time Hillel Slovak their original guitarist died of a drug over does and at that time Anthony Kiedis was also on drugs so he quit at this time so I think personally the name (mothers milk) and the cover on this album could represent fresh starts and purity and also the care and naturalness from mothers milk that Anthony needed or was getting etc.
So if you look at the cover of  I'm With You, you could say its showing the same thing, that there is purity and maturity in this album as they are adults now and have children, and hey are more wiser and more happy you could say. So this could be representing that as again it has a white background and only one image of a fly on a pill, so this could be them showing that their over drugs, their all clean, they don't need them and its what they think of them, which could be dirty and bad as there is a fly on the pill.

The Album Compared to Older Albums

I think that this album is a great album because its different to all their previous albums but still has the main essence that is the red hot chili peppers which is the melodic side to them along with their original funk side which shows in songs like Ethiopia and in the bass lines in the songs like Look Around and Adventures of Raindance Maggie. Compared to albums in the past I think that this album is different because of the sound of the music and I think that is because the music takes influence by more areas of music. This is because there is signs in the songs of certain genres, for example in the soloing at the end of Meet Me At The Corner you could say hat has a slight blues sound to it, and also Anthony said in an interview that the piano riff in the song Even You Brutus? was influenced by the old hip hop beats that was in a lot of hip hop songs and that was the backbone for that song.  The similarities on this album to their old albums is they still use Harmony's and backing vocals extremely well like they did in their previous albums which came from John Frusciante's influence in old pop and rock and roll songs like the beach boys and the way they used backing vocals.  Although compared to their more older albums such as Uplift Mofo Part Plan and Freaky Styley, I'm With You is even more different as their early albums are more bare and a lot more fast and the genre is more punk/funk. Other albums that were in this punk/funk style were Freaky Styley, Uplift Mofo Party Plan, Mothers Milk and Blood Sex Sugar Magic had some of this style but there was a lot more emotion in the record and it was more relaxed but there was still more funk orientated. Whereas I'm With You is more melodic and is more musically in depth because they use more instruments and bring in new ideas and try and branch out musically.
